Enable Result Linking to Deactivated Patient Charts

Affected Users:
Physicians and clinic staff (e.g., medical office assistants, administrators)

Problem:
When a patient chart is deactivated in MYLE (e.g., due to death), incoming results cannot be linked to the chart, either automatically or manually. This is a frequent issue in busy clinics, where postmortem results are common.

Task Affected:
Linking lab and diagnostic results to patient charts in MYLE.

Impact:

  • Leads to incomplete medical records

  • Poses legal risk if postmortem results are missing when records are requested by family members or courts

  • Current workaround, reactivating the chart, linking the result, then deactivating again, is slow, confusing, and error-prone

Current State:

  • Deactivated (e.g., deceased) patient charts do not auto-link results, even when the PHN matches

  • Users cannot search for or select deactivated patients when manually linking results

Proposed Solution:
Enable linking of results to deactivated patient charts:

  • Auto-linking: Automatically link results when the PHN matches, regardless of chart status

  • Manual linking: Allow users to search for and select deactivated patients during the linking process

Benefits:

  • Ensures complete and accurate medical records

  • Reduces legal and compliance risks

  • Streamlines staff workflows and minimizes errors

  • Attach files
